Skroderdienas Straumenos
Open-air theatre play
Skroderdienas Straumēnos is organised by TDK Straumeni CIO to promote and preserve Latvian cultural heritage within the wider community. The event centres on a traditional Latvian open-air theatre play and includes a Latvian home
producers' market, arts and crafts workshops, and
activities for both children and adults.
Zelta Pastala
Fun diaspora event
“Zelta Pastala” is an annual orienteering event for Latvian diaspora teams, in Straumēni (Leicestershire). Now in its sixth year, the event centers on the competition for the traveling trophy—the “Golden Slipper”—among diaspora organizations.
Following an approximately 10-kilometer orienteering course with 8 checkpoints and team challenges, a closing evening will be held—a community dance with live music. The purpose of the ball is not entertainment for its own sake, but rather to bring the community together, preserve Latvian music and dance traditions, and strengthen cooperation among organizations. Live music provides elements of traditional Latvian dancing and communal singing, which help to pass on Latvian culture within the diaspora.
